My wife and I once had a cockatiel that was just a little strange, but the weirdest thing about him was when he fell in love with a dish towel.
I have no idea how we discovered this little oddity, but once we did it was great. He use to whistle incessantly whenever we tried to watch TV, so all we had to do was put the towel next to him and he would quietly sit with it. Whenever we tried to take the towel away he would desperately try to attack our hand and bite. When the towel wasn't around, he was completely docile and friendly, but show that towel and he would defend "her". We couldn't even walk too close without him trying to lunge at us. We eventually gave the bird away to a coworker and made sure the towel went with him. Ah, I hope they're still happy together. |

Oh my goodness, this is a funny story! It is amusing when an animal becomes attached to a household item. My old cat had a similar experience with a stuffed animal that I brought home from a dinner date with my boyfriend. It was a toy that he had won out of those metal claw machines. She loved it, would run around with it's neck in her mouth... and for awhile there it was actually bigger than her.
But wow, a dish towel... that's priceless! |
