I have a friend that swears she has to give her cat a bath every week. I have found that cats are very clean and fastidious self-groomers and that they don't need any extra help. I can't image giving one of my cats a bath anyhow! Lots of scratches!
What do you all do to help groom your cat, if anything? |

Hi friends,
The amount of grooming a cat requires will depend to some extent on its type of coat. However, cats should be brushed or combed daily as this will help to reduce hairballs forming in the stomach when the cat grooms itself. |

My cat is very self-sufficient and keeps her coat clean and shiny by herself, so I don't have to bathe her. I do occasionally comb her though, because she enjoys the scratching sensation on her skin and it keeps her fur nice and tidy.
I think it's more important to comb cats if they roam outdoors. They get into too many things; bushes, dirt, bugs, sticky substances, etc... combing them will help keep that stuff to a minimum and out of the house, where it belongs! |

Umm Cats generally are afraid of the water. The generally fight to stay out of it. One Time I tried to give my Cats a Flea bath, trust me that did not work out so well for me in the end. Lots of scratches and a lot of biting. Me was alot of swearing and alot of bandaids. lol. Words of wisdom. Never try to give a cat a bath WITHOUT gloves. Its like crime it doesnt pay.

My cat always have her regular grooming time--regular bathing, once a month. Although my cat hates it, I force her to be bathe. She always has her coat brushed. I brush her hair in the direction of hair growth with a wire slicker brush. She also gets regular nail trimming. But I only borrow the nail cutter of my cousin, because I don't have a nail cutter for my cat. It is still advisable that you use a nail cutter especially designed for cats.

The only time I have found it necessary to bathe a cat is for flea control or to help with excessive shedding or skin issues.
Here in Cali fleas are a major issue, and sometimes the heat can cause dry skin. Maybe in worst case scenario bathing a cat once a month is decent, but only if necessary. Kat
