Default Hamster loud at night?

My nieces have a hamster and have been complaining about the hamster climing to the top of it's cage at night and biting on the metal cover. They also said that the wheel inside the cage often slams against the glass when the hamster is running inside it and it keeps them awake. I asked my sister in law if it would be possible to move the hamster to another room in the house, but they also have a cat, and don't want it to disturb the rodent or scare it in anyway.

Do you guys have any ideas on what we could do to solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

I am just wondering if she's pregnant. It's normal for hamsters to be loud at night when they are pregnant and I don't think there's anything much you can do to solve this then but for just wait, anyhow their gestation period is really short

Default Re: Hamster loud at night?

I expect that the hamster is loud all of the time and the only difference is that the girls are noticiing it at night because that is when quiet time is supposed to happen. With the whirl of daytime activities the hamsters noise probably just fits into normal background sounds. At night these will be more prevalent.

I would suggest putting a cloth covering over the cage at night to make it completely dark in the cage and see if that helps. If this is not helpful, maybe put a light on them in and enable them to see at night so that they aren't confused about what they are doing.

I know these suggestions are opposites, but trial and error may help. good luck.
