How to get rid of the smell?

My mom disapproves of having a pet hamster in the house. The main reason is due to its smell. She finds it stinky and she says that mouse really has that odor. How do you maintain the smell of your hamster?

I know it's been a while since the original post. I'm new to this site.

I have 3 hamsters, in 3 separate cages. I keep the smell down by completely washing their cages once a week, then half way in the week, changing the bedding agian.
