Default The Fighting Fish Thread

Who's fond of taking care of a fighting fish? I've taken care of this last year and I don't like it a little bit because you can't keep them together with other fish. I like those fish that moves and this fish doesn't. Although it may move but then it's always still in the fish bowl. What can you say about this fish?

Are you referring to Bettas? You can actually put betta in the same tank with other fish species as long as the other fish species are not aggressive and do not fin-nip but you cannot place two male bettas in the same tank. Female bettas, however, do not generally fight with each other so you can actually put them together in the same tank. If you would still consider having bettas as pets, you might as well buy the female ones. This species of fish is one of the most recognized fish because of its colors.

Yeah, I really forgot that it has an other name. I've only colored black bettas on a pet store and some with red colored tails. How come will I know if it's male or female. Your knowledge has given me a lot of information. Thank you.

My favourite fish ! They are so beautiful and elegant. I also like the fact that they are such strong fighters altough people might think they only look nice. But of course one has to be careful when holding them with other fish. Really nice to watch, i am a fan

Unfortunately their fins are very damageable. I often see them in the pet shop with broken or riven fins. Then they look very sad and not so elegant anymore.

Yes I think that too, Phil. But I really didn't know that their fins are sensitive I thought its really their nature because they keep fighting with the other fish close to them.

betta fish or often called the japanese fighting fish are aloud to be in a community talk with other fish as long as these fish r gentle.the reson you probaby r having troble is because you r putting them with other males. you cant do this as they will fight for taratorial reasons
if you want to put bettas in a tank together you might want to get a seperater
so that they will not be able to fight with each ther
if you do put your betta with other fish beware of fin nippers!
they will attack there fins resulitng in frayed fins, desease and even death.

trixie, you can tell if its a male or female because the males have very long flowing fins and females also have short fuins and if you look under the females fins on the bottom called the pectoral fins you will see and egg spot with is a small white dot that looks like an egg. they r also less colorful.

Oh Im a big fan of fighting fish but not the kind u find in your local pet stores I preferr PLAKAT THAI I've had hybrids imported in from Thailand from a friend I know there. I've been breeding this kind for almost 5 years now they are harder to breed because both the male and female are super agressive towards eachother so most of the time u have to wait till the male has ripped off all the females fins before they actually breed but I have been lucky a few times where afther I put the female in a glass jar in the males tank for a few days than released the femal and they spawned right away these fish are gorgeous if you ever get a chance to check them out I preferr the ones from japan and Thailand where they originated

NOT TRUE, Males also have the white thing underneath their pectoral fins there are some male bettas that have short tails they are called Plakat Thai. In the wild in thailand where they are caught, the wild plakat dont have much coloration in both male and female but the domesticated Plakat Thai far from its wild ancestors are as beautifull as betta slendens.

The wild type are know as Betta Imbellis, Betta Smaradinas, and betta Mahachai
