Default Training books or DVDs?

I'm just curious how you trained your dog? Are there any books or movies that helped you along the way? My friend can use all the information he can get, as he has no idea where to start and I can only help out so much before getting frustrated and running home to my cat.

If you have any suggestions, we'd love to hear them!

Good question. I do not think I trained my dog. Well I started to but then gave up because hes a knucklehead and all he wants to do is bark at the bloody neighbors dog. I think he has me trained because he has to go outside when ever the neighbors dogs are out and he wants to get to them. They both are female. That is probably the reason why.

I prefer to use both. There is nothing to lose, right (except of course, the monetary value when you purchase those materials)? What's good about videos is the trainer would be able to see what is it and how exactly he or she is supposed to do the training. This is especially good if the trainer is a newbie in training. On the side of books, well, a single book could give you more information than what a single video could allow you. But of course, you would have to alot time and patience in understanding every single instruction and concept in the literature for you to apply it in actual.

I agree, both! And once you learn how to teach your dogs how to behave, you'll be a good trainer in the future. Some dogs are just untrainable, in my honest opinion. I think they suffer from mental disorders and are just not able to be controlled. I'm not sure about any medications to treat your dog and make him focus. Something like doggy Prozac would be helpful with a few dogs that I have come across over the years.

Has your friend thought about going to obedience classes in the area? I have read books and seen videos, and they have helped, but there is nothing like face to face, person to instructor interaction. You can ask all the questions in the world that you have, the dog gets to work in a different enviroment and gets to interact with other dogs.
