Baldness is a common disease spotted in birds, especially in canaries and cockatiels. It is an acquired loss of feathers on the head mostly caused by a hormonal imbalance. It could be due to a genetic factor as well. Baldness can also be caused by over-preening by a mate. Supplementing your bird’s diet with Vitamin A helps!

Oh yes. Baldness can be well cold for cockatails my bird had it. I had to seperate my bird from his dad because the dad would always peck his bald head as he thought he was an enemy. Most animals see bear they think that it is a threat to them. My bird used to pull out my hair. I hated that. Ironic because he did not have hair.

According to a friend, Parrot Fever is also another common bird disease. It can cause chronic infections or sometimes death. To treat this, some doctors use an oral drug called doxycycline; others use an injectable version of the doxycycline.
Warning to bird lovers out there! This disease can be transmitted also to people. Last edited by heaven : 8th January 2007 at 10:24 AM. |

I've never thought that Parrots has the ability to be bald but still good if vitamin A could stop it. And Parrot Fever heaven was talking about really threatens me. Just like bird flu's it can be transmitted too to humans! All I knew was only bird flu can do that.
