Dogs at Work  » Dogs

Since the beginning of time, dogs have always lent a helping “hand.” They have been our companions, our protection, and most importantly, our aid when we need help the most. In recent years, these pets have become more than just a best friend. They have become our co-workers, striving for excellence. From police dogs to guide dogs – they are everywhere in society. Surprisingly, they can eliminate hazardous situations, especially life threatening ones.

In the law enforcement industry, dogs are a fundamental element to any job. For instance, the majority of police agencies require guard dogs at crime scenes. In many cases, they are used to find hidden drugs, criminals, and can sniff out illegal substances within miles. Due to the fact that their sense of smell is extremely heightened, they can find substances a lot easier than a human nose could. Additionally, they can protect their officer’s when a dangerous situation is at hand. Far too often criminals feel as if they can dominate the situation. However, once the existence of a dog is added, chances are they will obey and follow all rules. Moreover, guard dogs can capture a victim if they try to escape. Since dogs have no difficulty running rapid and elongated distances, capturing the criminal is much easier. Although these animals are not human, they have more abilities and strengths when it comes to being dedicated to the job.

While dogs are a large asset to any law enforcement agency, they also have many other responsibilities. Guide dogs, for instance, are more common around the globe. These dogs are specially trained to help their owners – whether it be for blindness, seizures, or a number of other ailments. Astonishingly, they can help their owner’s cross streets, get on buses, as well as keep them safe from harm twenty four hours a day. Guide dogs can also memorize routes, often a common path that the owner typically walks on. For instance, they could learn the way to the grocery store, college classes, or even an office. It is quite surprising to think that these animals can not only take commands from their owner’s, but they also logically think themselves. For instance, if an area is unsafe, they will make sure to warn the person they are with. Regardless of the situation, they generally are very good when it comes to reasoning. For most people, this is a huge phenomenon. Just think – our pets could actually be trained to help us in the real world!

In today’s age, it is a relief to think that there are animals that can lend a “paw.” They are our partners in crime, our best friends, and now they can be our source of protection. It is very comforting to know that if something happened and we were unable to live on our own, that a dog could possibly save our life and keep us going. Technology may be rapidly improving, but dogs will be around forever.
